Tottenham sign France defender on loan from Barcelona

Tottenham have signed France centre-back Clement Lenglet from Barcelona on a season-long loan, with an option-to-buy clause included.

The Spanish giants signed the 27-year-old centre-back from Sevilla for €35.9m euros in 2018, with a €300m release clause in his contract.

“I’m very happy to be here, to be in this city, at this club,” Lenglet said. “I speak with friends, with my family, to take my decision and all the words were very, very good speaking about the club.

“I’m very excited to start the season with my new teammates, new stadium, new city. For me, all is new, but I’m hungry, I want to play, I want to be the best soccer player to help the team to win trophies and to fight in all the competitions.

Lenglet becomes Antonio Conte’s fifth summer signing following the arrivals of Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma and Richarlison. Unfortunately though, it was too late to get a visa in time to join Tottenham’s pre-season trip to Korea.
