Cardiff City Latest
Cardiff City Football Club, based in the Welsh capital, was founded in 1899 as Riverside AFC, changing its name to Cardiff City in 1908. The club has played in the English football league system since joining the Southern Football League in 1910 and the Football League in 1920.
Its historical peak came in the 1920s, finishing second in the top division in 1924 and famously becoming the only non-English team to win the FA Cup, defeating Arsenal in the 1927 final. Cardiff City has also won the Welsh Cup over 20 times.
They played at Ninian Park from 1910 until 2009 before moving to the Cardiff City Stadium. The club, nicknamed “The Bluebirds,” has experienced fluctuating fortunes, with periods in both the Premier League and lower divisions.
Their most recent spells in the Premier League were in 2013/14 and 2018/19. Since 2010, Cardiff City has been owned by Malaysian businessman Vincent Tan.
