Chelsea Football Club is a major English football team based in Fulham, West London, playing home matches at Stamford Bridge since its founding in 1905 by Gus Mears. The club was formed after an attempt to lease the stadium to Fulham FC failed, leading to the selection of the Chelsea name. Chelsea quickly established itself in the Football League, becoming known for large crowds and signing star players, but major success eluded the club for decades.
