Swansea City Association Football Club, founded in 1912 as Swansea Town, is a professional football club based in Swansea, Wales. The team plays home matches at the Swansea.com Stadium (formerly Liberty Stadium), after previously playing at Vetch Field for nearly a century. The club changed its name to Swansea City in 1969 to reflect Swansea’s new city status.

Swansea has experienced fluctuating fortunes: they reached the English top flight in 1981, finishing a record sixth in their debut First Division season, suffered subsequent relegations, and narrowly avoided dropping out of the Football League in 2003. In 2011, Swansea became the first Welsh club to play in the Premier League era and won their first major trophy, the League Cup, in 2013. The club has won multiple Welsh Cups and qualified for European competitions, including the UEFA Europa League.
