Leicester City Football Club, founded in 1884 as Leicester Fosse. The club adopted the name Leicester City in 1919 following the city gaining official city status. Initially, they played at various grounds before settling at Filbert Street in 1891, moving later to the King Power Stadium in 2002. Leicester City competes in the Premier League, having secured promotion as EFL Championship champions in the 2023–24 season.
Historically, Leicester has won five major domestic trophies: one Premier League title (2015–16), one FA Cup (2021), and three League Cups (1964, 1997, 2000), alongside two FA Community Shields (1971, 2021). The 2015–16 Premier League victory was a notable underdog triumph that received worldwide recognition. The club’s highest league finish prior to that was second place in the top flight in 1928–29. Leicester has also participated in European competitions, reaching the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals in 2016–17 and the UEFA Europa Conference League semi-finals in 2021–22.
Throughout their history, Leicester have endured ups and downs including relegations and promotions, with long spells in the second tier, and briefly playing in the third tier for one season in 2008–09. The club is affectionately nicknamed “The Foxes”.
