West Ham United Football Club, nicknamed “the Hammers” or “the Irons,” is a professional football team based in Stratford, East London. Founded in 1895 as Thames Ironworks and reformed as West Ham United in 1900, the club originally played at the Boleyn Ground in Upton Park for over a century before moving to the modern London Stadium in 2016.
West Ham has a proud history and tradition, closely linked to its East London working-class roots. They have established themselves as cup specialists, winning the FA Cup three times (1964, 1975, 1980), the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1965, and most recently, the UEFA Europa Conference League in 2023. The club’s best-ever league finish was third in 1985–86.
West Ham is renowned for its youth academy, the “Academy of Football,” producing renowned players like Bobby Moore and Geoff Hurst. The club has had many years of ups and downs but has been a mainstay in the Premier League since 2005/06.
