Stoke City Football Club is one of the oldest professional football clubs in the world, founded in 1863 as Stoke Ramblers by former Charterhouse School students working as railway apprentices. The club is based in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, and adopted the name Stoke City in 1925 after the town achieved city status. Known as The Potters (reflecting the local pottery industry), Stoke City played at Victoria Ground for 119 years before moving to the modern bet365 Stadium in 1997.

Stoke were one of the twelve founding members of the Football League in 1888. Their best achievements include winning the Football League Cup in 1972, and reaching their closest league title challenge in the 1946–47 season. The club has also won the Football League Trophy twice (1992 and 2000).

Stoke City’s traditional kit is red-and-white stripes, and their main rivals are Port Vale, with whom they contest the “Potteries derby.”
