Luton Town Football Club, founded in 1885, is based in Bedfordshire, and nicknamed “The Hatters.” The club began as a merger between Luton Wanderers and Luton Excelsior, becoming southern England’s first fully professional club in 1891. Early successes included being a founding member of the Southern League and then joining the Football League Second Division in 1897. Financial challenges led to a return to regional leagues until rejoining the Football League in 1920.

Luton Town’s greatest achievements include reaching the FA Cup Final in 1959 and winning the League Cup in 1988. The club spent periods in the top division during the 1950s, 1980s, and late 1980s to early 1990s. The 21st century saw financial turbulence, with multiple relegations and exclusion from the Football League in 2009 after severe points deductions. Luton persevered, returned to the Football League in 2014, and achieved a remarkable rise back up the divisions, culminating in a brief Premier League stint in 2023–24 before relegation.

Home matches are played at Kenilworth Road, their stadium since 1905.
