Manchester United have reportedly reached a deal in principle for Michael Carrick to return to Old Trafford as interim manager until the end of the 2025-26 season.
Following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim and a difficult week under Darren Fletcher—culminating in an FA Cup exit to Brighton—the board has moved to bring in a familiar face to stabilize the squad.
Carrick, who previously served as caretaker manager in 2021 and has impressed as a head coach elsewhere, is expected to be in the dugout for this Saturday’s high-stakes Manchester Derby with Man City.
While the club continues to search for a long-term permanent successor for the summer, Carrick’s immediate priority will be reviving United’s top-four hopes and integrating January recruits.
