Newly-appointed interim manager Michael Carrick has promised to unleash Manchester United’s offensive potential as he takes charge for the remainder of the season.
Following the departure of Ruben Amorim and a brief caretaker spell under Darren Fletcher, Manchester United have turned to club legend Michael Carrick to steady the ship.
In his first official interview since the appointment, the 44-year-old expressed his elation at returning to Carrington, promising fans a shift back to a traditional 4-2-3-1 system and emphasised that his priority is to restore the high standards expected at the club and help the current group of players rediscover their best form.
“I’m one of them. We’re all in it together, and I think it’s important that we all look after each other,” he said. “it comes down to results at the end of the day.
“There’s different ways of doing it, of course, different situations in games that you might have to play a certain way.
“Hopefully we can play a really exciting type of football and be positive and express and bring excitement. I want to be off my seat. I want to be enjoying watching the boys play, and results obviously need to come with that.”
“My focus now is on helping the players to reach the standards that we expect at this incredible club, which we know that this group is more than capable of producing.”
“There is still a lot to fight for this season. We’re ready to pull everyone together and give the fans the performances that their loyal support deserves.”
The board’s decision to appoint Carrick as a bridge until the summer comes with a major strategic shift.
Reports indicate United will not make any short-term signings in the January window. Instead, Carrick will work with the inherited squad, focusing on securing a Champions League spot.
His tactical debut will be a trial by fire, as he leads United into Saturday’s game against Man City. Despite the pressure, Carrick remains confident, stating that there is still plenty to fight for this season.
