Michael Carrick’s perfect start as Manchester United interim manager continued with a 2-0 victory over a ten-man Tottenham Hotspur side.
United moved five points clear of Liverpool in the race for the top four after a professional victory at Old Trafford.
The game swung in United’s favour in the 29th minute when Tottenham captain Cristian Romero was shown a straight red card for a reckless challenge on Casemiro.
United took advantage shortly after, with Bryan Mbeumo sweeping home from a clever corner routine. Bruno Fernandes sealed the points late in the second half, ending an eight-game winless run against the North London side.
For Thomas Frank, the defeat marks a new low in a dismal 2026, with Spurs now winless in seven matches and sitting just six points above the relegation zone.
Frank defended Romero after the game, insisting the defender “went for the ball,” but the dismissal undoubtedly cost his side any chance of a result.
Carrick’s side, by contrast, look revitalised, with Kobbie Mainoo earning plaudits for his dominant display in midfield alongside Casemiro. United now sit firmly in fourth place, with supporters growing increasingly vocal about the possibility of Carrick taking the job on a permanent basis.
