Brentford defender Benjamin Fredrick has expressed his determination to break into the first team and make his long-awaited Premier League debut after officially signing a new four-year contract with the Bees.
The 21-year-old Nigeria international has committed his future to the West London club until the summer of 2030, with the agreement also including an option to extend the deal by a further 12 months.
Having progressed through the ranks and impressed thoroughly with the development squad, Fredrick has now been fully integrated into the senior setup under head coach Keith Andrews as pre-season preparations gather pace.
The young centre-back, who can also operate effectively as a right-back, spent the previous campaign gaining valuable senior experience on loan in the Belgian Pro League with FCV Dender.
He made 15 appearances across all competitions in Belgium before a knee injury cut his season short, forcing him to return to England for intensive rehabilitation.
Despite that setback, his immense potential has never been doubted by the Brentford management team, who have monitored his progress closely since he arrived from the Simoiben Football Academy in Kaduna.
Fredrick has already established himself on the senior international stage, starting the final four matches of Nigeria’s qualification campaign for the 2026 World Cup and featuring prominently in their continental play-off fixtures.
Andrews spoke warmly about the player’s attributes, noting that the club sees enormous potential in the young defender and believes his game can be elevated to the highest level over the coming seasons.
“We’re delighted that Benji has signed a new deal and is going to be part of the group this season, because we see a lot of potential in him and where we can bring his game to,” he said.
“He’s already played senior international football and was a big part of Nigeria’s team in their World Cup qualifying campaign.
“Last season, he had a really productive loan in Belgium that was unfortunately cut short due to injury.
“The first port of call for Benji is to integrate into the squad consistently. His last game was the middle of November, so that’s a long time he’s had out through injury.
“He’s then got to come into the first-team space, challenge his team-mates and show the ability and the personality which I know he has.”
The primary objective for Fredrick over the coming weeks will be to fully integrate into the daily training routines of the senior squad, build up his physical resilience following his injury lay-off, and absorb the tactical demands of the Preier League.
