Leeds given encouragement over Harvey Elliott deal

Leeds United could get a crack at Harvey Elliott in January. Football Insider say the club have been given encouragement over a permanent deal for the Liverpool midfielder.

Leeds have admired Elliott for a long time and were linked with him in the summer. He went to Valencia on loan instead, and it hasn’t worked out. Valencia are preparing to end the deal when the window opens, which would send the 23-year-old back to Anfield.

Nobody seems to think he’s staying there. Elliott doesn’t see a future at Liverpool and wants a permanent move within England, not another loan. Liverpool feel the same way. They’d rather sell than let his contract, which runs to summer 2028, wind down.

There’s some baggage. He hasn’t started for Valencia and was sent off for dissent in his latest outing off the bench. A few loan spells that haven’t gone to plan have raised question marks too. Even so, he’s still expected to attract Premier League interest.

Leeds’ interest in Sevilla winger Miguel Sierra is a separate matter and looks more likely to turn into a deal next summer than in January.

Worth a punt for Leeds, as long as the price is right. Elliott’s loans haven’t gone to plan and he isn’t even starting at Valencia, so nobody should be paying a big fee. But he’s 23, Liverpool want him gone and his contract has under two years left. That’s leverage for Leeds, and if they use it well he’s a gamble worth taking.
