Burnley Football Club is a professional football team based in Lancashire, founded on 18 May 1882 by members of the former rugby club Burnley Rovers. The club is one of only five teams to have won all four professional divisions of English football.

Burnley have twice been crowned champions of England (1920–21 and 1959–60), won the FA Cup in 1913–14, and have two FA Charity Shields (1960 and 1973). They are also a founder member of the Football League in 1888.

Their home ground is Turf Moor, which they’ve occupied since 1883. Nicknamed “The Clarets” due to their claret and blue strip adopted in 1910, the club has a fierce rivalry with Blackburn Rovers, contesting the East Lancashire Derby.

In recent years, Burnley has fluctuated between the Premier League and the Championship, but are back in the top flight from the 2025/26 season.
