Carrick now favourite for Manchester United job

Despite a midweek defeat to Newcastle snapping his unbeaten start, Michael Carrick has reportedly been installed as the “red-hot favourite” to take the Manchester United job permanently this summer.

Carrick has already begun planning for next season’s recruitment, with the hierarchy impressed by his transformation of the squad since January.

In a press conference today, Carrick addressed the growing trend of “grappling” in the penalty area, claiming the issue has “gone too far” and is distorting the game.

United are also monitoring the fitness of Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire, who both missed the Newcastle trip through illness, as they look to maintain their push for a top-four finish.
