Chelsea striker Liam Delap has been ruled out of action until early January, providing a setback to manager Enzo Maresca’s attacking options.
The forward sustained a shoulder injury during the recent defeat to Leeds United.
Speaking in Italy ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League defeat to Atalanta, Maresca said on Monday: “Liam has not fractured anything. I’m not sure [how long he will be out], to be honest.”
While initial fears of a fracture were dismissed, Delap’s absence leaves Maresca relying heavily on Marc Guiu and João Pedro to lead the line during the demanding festive period.
The club is hopeful Delap will return in time for the FA Cup third round tie against Charlton Athletic.
