Man Utd victorious in Carabao Cup Final

Manchester United have ended their six-year wait for silverware after beating Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup Final at Wembley on Sunday.

Casemiro headed home Luke Shaw’s free-kick to open the scoring on 33 minutes.

United then went 2-0 up when Newcastle’s Sven Botman deflected Marcus Rashford’s shot beyond keeper Loris Karius for an unfortunate own goal.

“We have been searching for this moment,” said Bruno Fernandes after the game. “I am satisfied now because I get my trophy but I want more.”

Erik ten Hag’s side are in the last 16 of the Europa League, face West Ham United in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Wednesday and are third in the Premier League, eight points behind leaders Arsenal.

It could well be United’s season.
