Manchester United advance on Atalanta midfielder Ederson

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing of Brazilian midfielder Ederson from Italian side Atalanta.

The energetic midfielder looks poised to become the first official signing under the stewardship of manager Michael Carrick, who is determined to rebuild the squad and challenge for silverware next season.

United have prioritised strengthening the engine room this summer, particularly given the departure of veteran midfielder Casemiro at the end of his contract, alongside intense speculation surrounding the futures of Manuel Ugarte and Mason Mount.

Ederson has enjoyed an outstanding couple of seasons in Serie A, establishing a reputation as a robust, dynamic box-to-box dynamo capable of breaking up opposition play and driving his team forward.

Speaking about the impending move, the Brazilian international provided a major update by confirming that the details of the transfer agreement between the two clubs are almost completely sorted, with only minor formalities left to conclude before he flies to Manchester for his medical examinations.

“It’s practically almost all sorted.” he confirmed.

This acquisition represents a major coup for Carrick, who views Ederson as the perfect tactical fit to inject energy, tactical discipline, and physical resilience into a midfield that often looked vulnerable against high-pressing opposition last season.

The Old Trafford hierarchy is hoping that this will be the first key signing of a successful summer transfer window.

Beyond the pursuit of Ederson, United remain heavily active in the market, with reports suggesting they are monitoring Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali and assessing potential free-agent opportunities like former Arsenal loanee Dani Ceballos.

Carrick is eager to get the bulk of his transfer business completed before the squad returns for pre-season training in July, allowing the new signings time to integrate into his tactical framework before the new Premier League campaign kicks off in August.
