Ahead of Monday night’s Premier League clash against Everton, reports have emerged that Michael Carrick is now the leading candidate to take the Manchester United managerial job on a permanent basis this summer.
Carrick has masterminded an incredible turnaround since January, remaining unbeaten in five matches with landmark wins over City and Arsenal.
United chiefs are reportedly “hugely impressed” by Carrick’s tactical flexibility and his commitment to the academy, having frequently attended youth fixtures in person.
While Gareth Southgate remains a name of interest, Carrick is now considered the clear frontrunner to lead the project into the 2026/27 campaign.

Carrick is expected to start with a strong XI against Everton, including Bruno Fernandes and Matheus Cunha, though he remains without the injured Patrick Dorgu.
Everton, led by David Moyes, are seeking a rare league double over the Red Devils.
