Manchester United move three points clear in third with Brentford win

Manchester United have all but secured their place in next season’s Champions League after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Brentford at Old Trafford on Monday night.

The Red Devils took an early lead through a Casemiro strike in the 11th minute, following a dominant opening period.

The advantage was doubled just before half-time when Benjamin Sesko found the net in the 43rd minute, providing what looked like a comfortable cushion for Michael Carrick’s side.

However, the Bees refused to fold and set up a nervous finale when Mathias Jensen pulled a goal back in the 87th minute.

Despite the late pressure, United held on to move to 61 points, establishing a three-point lead over rivals Aston Villa and Liverpool in the race for third place.

The victory maintains United’s status as the most in-form team of 2026, though the night was slightly marred by a yellow card for Luke Shaw, who had to be substituted later in the match due to a fitness concern.
