Michael Carrick suffers first defeat as Manchester United manager

The “Carrick bounce” finally came to a halt on Wednesday evening as Manchester United fell to a 2-1 defeat against a 10-man Newcastle United.

Despite the Magpies having Jacob Ramsey sent off in the first half, they took the lead through an Anthony Gordon penalty.

Casemiro equalised for the Red Devils just before the interval, but a stunning 90th-minute solo winner from William Osula snapped United’s seven-game unbeaten run.

Following the match, United legend Paul Scholes made headlines by questioning Carrick’s recent tactical choices, suggesting that some of the previous wins had masked underlying issues in the squad’s performance.
