Manchester United interim manager Michael Carrick has publicly called for the club to extend Harry Maguire’s contract.
The 32-year-old defender has enjoyed a remarkable resurgence under Carrick’s leadership and is currently in the final three months of his deal.
Carrick labelled Maguire “better than ever” and praised his invaluable experience in a younger squad.
“Experience is massive,” Carrick stated this afternoon, suggesting that with Casemiro confirmed to be leaving this summer, retaining Maguire’s leadership is essential for the club’s stability.
“He’s had a great career so far. Hopefully, there’s a lot more to come,’ he added.
“I think, even while he’s been here, in the journey and the experiences that he’s had, certainly since he’s been here and with England as well, I think he’s shown exactly what he is.
“I think we all know the player that he is and what he’s capable of doing. Again, the other night I thought he was fantastic. Experience helps, his attributes help, and his character.”
