Newcastle United Football Club is a professional football club based in Newcastle upon Tyne, founded officially in 1892 after a merger of Newcastle East End and Newcastle West End. The team plays at St James’ Park, their historic home since the late 19th century, and wears black-and-white striped shirts.

Newcastle is one of England’s most successful clubs, ranking ninth in total major honours, with four league titles (1905, 1907, 1909, 1927), six FA Cups (most recently in 1955), a League Cup (2025), and success in European competition with the 1969 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup.

Famous for passionate support, a fierce rivalry with Sunderland (the Tyne-Wear derby), and iconic figures like Alan Shearer, the club experienced golden eras in the early 1900s, 1950s, and a strong resurgence in the 1990s and 2020s. After two relegations in the 21st century, Newcastle has quickly returned to the Premier League on both occasions.

In 2021, the club was taken over by a consortium led by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, sparking ambitious new investment and earning the club’s first major domestic trophy in almost 70 years with the 2024–25 EFL Cup.
