Police drop investigation into Barkley bar ‘attack’

Merseyside police have dropped an investigation into an alleged unprovoked attack on Everton’s Ross Barkley.

The 23-year-old midfielder was allegedly assaulted in the Santa Chupitos bar in Liverpool city centre after Everton’s 4-2 win over Leicester City at Goodison Park in April.

The police investigated after CCTV footage of the incident was circulated on social media in a bid to track down the offender.

But three months on nobody has been identified and the police have now reportedly dropped their enquiries after the player said he did not want to press charges.

This news comes at a time that Everton boss Ronald Koeman has revealed in his prematch press conference that Barkley has no future at the club. Spurs are odds on favourites to sign him before the transfer window closes.
