Terry relishing Championship challenge

John Terry is looking forward to life in the Championship with Aston Villa.

After 717 games for Chelsea the 36-year-old defender made the switch at the end of the season, but has no regrets.

“You don’t put 22 years on the line, having won what I’ve won – that remains regardless,” he told BBC Radio 5 live. “Over the years at Chelsea, they haven’t all been successes, we had some really disappointing ones.

“But if you can have a really good year and get promoted and win a trophy, the disappointing ones get forgotten a little. If I can add this to a long list of trophies and successes then fantastic.”

Terry has been handed the captain’s armband by Villa boss Steve Bruce, and will be hoping he can lead them to success as he led Chelsea for so many years. The bookies have Villa at 2/1 second favourites behind Middlesbrough to be promoted to the Premier League. With Terry in charge on the field that is sounding like a good bet.
