Arne Slot concerned about Alexander Isak injury

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has admitted he has a gut feeling that the injury sustained by Alexander Isak at Tottenham could be serious.

Liverpool’s 2-1 victory on Saturday evening was overshadowed by a significant injury to the star striker.

The Swedish international, who has been finding his feet following a high-profile summer move, scored the opening goal in the 56th minute but was immediately scissored down by Micky van de Ven in the process.

Isak remained on the turf in visible distress and was unable to continue, eventually limping off the pitch with assistance from the medical staff.

Slot admitted that his “gut feeling” is that the injury is not a minor one, citing the player’s immediate realization that he could not carry on.

The timing is particularly cruel for the Reds, as Isak had just begun to strike up a promising partnership with fellow new arrival Florian Wirtz, who provided the assist for the goal.

Liverpool are currently awaiting the results of a comprehensive scan to determine the extent of the damage to his leg and ankle.

With the Africa Cup of Nations depriving the Reds of Mo Salah’s services, and the festive schedule reaching its peak, losing a primary goalscorer like Isak would be a massive blow to Liverpool’s hopes of cementing a place in the top four.

Slot noted that while the team is developing well, losing such a pivotal figure is “all the more frustrating” given the quality of the goal he produced.
