Transfer speculation is dominating the back pages today as Manchester United reportedly prepare an £80 million bid for Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.
With Casemiro widely expected to depart Old Trafford this summer, Michael Carrick has identified the Brazilian as the ideal candidate to partner Kobbie Mainoo in a new-look midfield.
Reports suggest that Guimaraes has been recommended to the United hierarchy by his compatriot Casemiro, who believes the 28-year-old is the perfect fit for Carrick’s tactical system.
Newcastle are reportedly desperate to keep hold of their captain and are attempting to finalise a contract extension before the summer window opens.
However, the Magpies may be forced to sell one of their star assets to fund their own recruitment plans, which reportedly include a shock move to re-sign Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest for a fee exceeding £90 million.
United are also monitoring other targets including Adam Wharton and Joao Gomes, but Guimaraes is understood to be at the very top of Carrick’s summer wishlist.
