England national team manager Thomas Tuchel has spoken passionately about the enduring qualities of the Premier League and how those domestic traits are influencing his squad during their current international campaign.
Speaking to the media in Miami ahead of the team’s highly-anticipated showdown against Norway, the 52-year-old tactician explained that the core identity of English football, which is defined by a relentless competitive edge, togetherness, and physical grit, remains an invaluable asset on the global stage.
“I’m not sure if I tried to change the identity,” he explained. “I try to support the players and build a platform for them to show their qualities.
“I think you see, especially in this World Cup, in our World Cup campaign, that we can play front foot football, we can be aggressive, we like to be active.
“And of course, I think that mentality, togetherness, competitiveness, having the bite and the hunger and the grit is a part of English football, it’s a part of the Premier League.
“You cannot count it in passes and in attacks and ball possession, but these things matter in football.
“This team and these players have it to the highest level. That’s basically it.”
This tactical philosophy has yielded positive results during their summer campaign, with the players showing the necessary hunger and bite to overcome difficult moments against varied international opposition.
As England prepare to face a formidable Norway side, Tuchel is confident that the Premier League experience embedded within his squad will give them the edge they need to succeed.
