England national team manager Thomas Tuchel has held a decisive clearing of the air meeting with his squad in Atlanta to ensure complete focus ahead of their crucial FIFA World Cup semi-final clash against Argentina on Wednesday night.
The Three Lions secured their place in the final four with a hard-fought two-one victory over Norway in extra time in Miami on Saturday.
However, the triumph was quickly followed by intense media scrutiny after Tuchel publicly criticised the team’s messy display, prompting a defensive response from star midfielder Jude Bellingham, who pointed out the gruelling conditions on the pitch.
Speaking to the press at the Atlanta Stadium, the 52-year-old German tactician explained that he debriefed the entire squad in the dressing room and again on Sunday evening to establish a fresh direction.
Tuchel insisted that there is no lingering tension between himself and Bellingham, stating that both of their post-match comments came from the same highly-competitive place.
He emphasised that nobody in the camp is satisfied with simply reaching the semi-finals, and that a collective hunger is vital if they are to overcome the reigning world champions and book a place in Sunday’s final against Spain.
Tuchel received a major fitness boost with the news that key midfielder Declan Rice has fully recovered from an illness and is ready to start the semi-final.
The only players unavailable for selection against the South American giants are the suspended defender Jarell Quansah and the injured veteran Jordan Henderson.
While acknowledging the deep historical rivalry between England and Argentina, Tuchel made it clear that his team will not be using past tournament meetings as fuel.
Instead, the focus remains entirely on producing a high-quality tactical performance to overcome a formidable opponent and take the next step toward global glory.
