Roberto De Zerbi drives massive squad overhaul at Tottenham Hotspur with heavy summer spending

Tottenham Hotspur have launched an aggressive rebuilding project under new manager Roberto De Zerbi, committing roughly £237m in transfer fees to transform their first-team squad.

The North London club has moved swiftly in the summer market to back their new manager, completing six permanent signings as they look to bounce back from consecutive disappointing domestic campaigns.

The centrepiece of De Zerbi’s recruitment drive is the club-record signing of Italian international midfielder Sandro Tonali, who has arrived from Newcastle United to provide tactical intelligence and composure in the engine room.

The midfield has been further bolstered by the addition of talented Portuguese prospect Mateus Fernandes.

De Zerbi has also focused heavily on reinforcing a defensive line that struggled last season, bringing in Dutch centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton, experienced left-back Andrew Robertson, and central defender Marcos Senesi.

This massive financial outlay represents the second-highest transfer expenditure in Tottenham’s history, highlighting the club’s determination to establish a squad capable of playing De Zerbi’s demanding, high-possession style.

While Tonali is currently unable to train fully as he recovers from an ongoing issue, the club is already planning its next moves in the market.

Spurs have slowed down their pursuit of certain attacking targets to ensure they secure the precise profiles needed to complete a squad transformation that fans hope will propel them back into the Premier League top four.
