Brentford have underlined their ambitions ahead of the new Premier League campaign by completing the signing of Mamadou Sangare from French side RC Lens for a club record fee.
The Mali international midfielder has signed a five-year contract, with the Bees also holding the option of extending his stay by a further 12 months. Reports suggest the deal is worth around £39 million, comfortably surpassing Brentford’s previous transfer record.
Sangare arrives with an impressive reputation following a successful spell in France, where he established himself as one of Ligue 1’s most consistent midfielders.
Head coach Keith Andrews has made no secret of his admiration for the 24-year-old.
“Mamadou is someone that we’ve tracked for quite some time. He’s been on our radar and was a player we were really keen to bring in,” he said.
“He’s a humble young man, but he’s equally as determined to succeed in his career. He fits everything we want from a Brentford player, on and off the pitch.”
Bees fans will now be eager to see how Sangare adapts to English football. With Tottenham Hotspur providing the opening day opposition later this month, Brentford will hope their new signing can make an immediate impression as they look to build on another encouraging Premier League campaign.
