Emre Can has returned to Liverpool training at Melwood, as Jurgen Klopp quells speculation about the German midfielder’s future.
With delays over contract extension talks and reports in the Italian press about a potential £31m move to Juventus, the Liverpool boss was quick to dismiss the rumours.
“You can imagine we’re involved in talks and we all feel good and confident in this moment,” he said. “That means they’re not the worst talks but until anything is done or signed there’s nothing to say.
“Emre is a very important player for us. We don’t want to sell or lose players who are in our first line up or close to it. Emre is certainly one of them. We want to keep him and we’re having good talks.”
Despite Klopp’s ‘confidence’ there is no escaping the rumours that the Juventus move is almost certainly going to happen, particularly with the likelihood that Can will be surplus to requirements if and when Liverpool finally sign Naby Keita.
Can will link up with the rest of the squad on their pre-season trip to Germany this week.
