Emre Can to leave Liverpool on a free transfer

Emre Can’s contract extension talks appear to have ground to a halt, amid rumours that Liverpool refuse to insert a release clause into it.

The 23-year-old German midfielder’s current deal runs out at the end of the season and, if the Daily Mail is correct, he has now resigned himself to leaving the club in the summer.

Liverpool famously avoided putting a release clause into Philippe Coutinho’s latest contract that was agreed in January, and were therefore able to block his attempted move to Barcelona in the summer.

Without a new contract in place, Can will be able to start talking to prospective new clubs from January, with Juventus no doubtedly eager to be top of the list.
