Mixed fortunes for English clubs in Champions League draw

The draw for the group stage of the Champions League has taken place in Monaco and some English clubs have faired better than others.

Tottenham have been drawn against European champions Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Apoel of Cyprus while Chelsea must play Atletico Madrid, Roma and Qarabag.

The other clubs have slightly ‘easier’ groups – Manchester City will play Shakhtar Donetsk, Napoli and Feyenoord, their neighbours United face Benfica, Basel and CSKA Moscow and Liverpool have been drawn against Spartak Moscow, Sevilla and Maribor.

The group stage matches begin on 12-13 September.
