Middlesbrough Football Club have lost patience with manager Jonathan Woodgate and replaced him with relegation-avoidance expert Neil Warnock.
A club statement read: “MFC can confirm that head coach Jonathan Woodgate has been relieved of his duties with immediate effect,” read a club statement.
“Jonathan was relieved of his role on Tuesday morning and will be replaced by the experienced Neil Warnock.
“Warnock will assume responsibility immediately. The club would like to place on record its thanks to Jonathan for all his work in the role of head coach.”
Warnock will have to work his magic quickly. Boro sit 21st in the Championship after Saturday’s embarrassing 3-0 home defeat by Swansea City.
They are now only ahead of third from bottom Hull City on goal difference and play them a week on Thursday in what is likely to prove a crucial six-pointer if they want to avoid the drop.
