Bernardo Silva joins Real Madrid

Bernardo Silva has officially finalised a move to Real Madrid.

The Spanish giants confirmed on Wednesday that the Portuguese international has signed a two-year contract, keeping him at the Santiago Bernabeu until June 2028.

Moving as a free agent following his departure from the Etihad Stadium, the 31-year-old midfielder will link up with newly-appointed manager Jose Mourinho in the Spanish capital.

Silva departs Manchester City as one of the most decorated and influential players in the modern history of the club.

Arriving from Monaco in 2017, the midfield maestro went on to make 460 appearances across all competitions, netting 76 goals.

His staggering trophy haul at the club consists of 19 major honours, including six Premier League titles, three FA Cups, five League Cups, and City’s historic maiden UEFA Champions League crown in 2023.

In his final campaign with the Blues, Silva remained an indispensable figure, featuring in every single Premier League fixture as City finished runners-up.

He concluded his final season by lifting both the FA Cup and the League Cup.

This summer represents a monumental shift for the club, as Silva’s departure follows the exit of manager Pep Guardiola, marking the definitive end of an golden era.

The Portuguese star becomes Real Madrid’s second major signing of the summer, following the arrival of Spanish left-back Marc Cucurella from Chelsea.

For Manchester City, replacing the tactical versatility and work rate of their former captain will undoubtedly form the primary focus of their summer transfer window.
