Manchester City agree British record £116m fee to sign Elliot Anderson

Manchester City have sent shockwaves through English football by agreeing a monumental £116m fee with Nottingham Forest to sign 23-year-old midfielder Elliot Anderson.

The historic deal will completely eclipse the £100m City paid for Jack Grealish in 2021, positioning the versatile England international as the most expensive footballer in British history.

Advanced negotiations between the clubs concluded late on Thursday night, with Forest extracting a premier valuation for a player they originally purchased from Newcastle United for just £35m in 2023.

Anderson has been granted formal permission by the Football Association to undergo a medical examination in New York while away on senior international duty with Thomas Tuchel’s England squad at the World Cup.

Incoming Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca, who is heavily transitioning the squad following the departure of Pep Guardiola, views Anderson as the absolute perfect long-term engine room addition.

The multi-functional midfielder is understood to have agreed a comprehensive five-year contract with an option for a further 12 months, which could see his weekly salary climb to £300,000 if all performance-related targets are successfully hit.

City fans are eager to see the official announcement, which is expected once final medical checks are cleared in America.
