Monaco trying to hold onto Mbappe

Monaco are in talks with Kylian Mbappe over a contract extension, amid strong interest from Real Madrid, Manchester City and Arsenal.

The club’s vice-president Vadim Vasilyev claims that “we are in discussions over a contract extension with Kylian and we hope to reach an agreement.”

“We haven’t reached an agreement with any club for Mbappe. We are negotiating to extend his contract but you mustn’t push the player too hard. We must allow him to take his time, not rush things.

“There is too much media pressure. I remind you he’s only 18.”

Mbappe still has two years left to run on his current contract with Monaco and, despite the contract talks, it seems almost certain that the 18-year-old French striker will join Real Madrid before the transfer window closes this summer, as they appear to be the only club not balking at the £160m asking price.
