Michael Carrick enjoyed a fairytale start to his interim tenure as Manchester United secured a dominant 2-0 victory over Manchester City at Old Trafford.
Despite City holding the majority of possession, United were far more clinical and had three goals disallowed for offside.
Bryan Mbeumo broke the deadlock in the 65th minute, finishing a clinical counter-attack initiated by Bruno Fernandes.
Patrick Dorgu doubled the lead ten minutes later, tapping in a cross from substitute Matheus Cunha. The result lifts United into the top four and deals a massive blow to City’s title hopes.
